Irma Bernice Berends Gonnerman, age 92, daughter of Chris and Jennie (Noble) Berends was born June 4, 1923, in May City and passed away June 25, 2015 in Littleton, Colorado.

Irma attended rural schools and graduated from Excelsior High School in 1940. She married Lloyd Gonnerman on Sept. 28, 1947. They had two daughters, Linda and Kay. They farmed in the Hartley-Melvin area their first 20 years before they moved to Hartley where she worked at Yager's Department Store and Hartley Foods.

In 1978, they moved to Arnolds Park. She worked as a cashier in Consumer's Lumber in Spirit Lake for 12 years and part-time in Milford Pharmacy and Gifts for several years. She enjoyed working with people. Lloyd passed away Dec. 23, 1997. Irma moved to Littleton, Colorado, in 2001 to be near her family.

Irma and Lloyd enjoyed living in Arnolds Park, spending a lot of time boating and fishing. Irma enjoyed making quilts, knitting, crocheting, nature -- she loved birds and flowers, and reading, especially her bible. She was a member of St. Philip Lutheran Church in Littleton, Colorado and First Lutheran Church in Milford.

She is survived by her two daughters Linda (Roger) Crowner and Kay (Lynn) White, three grandchildren Jonathan Vaala (Michelle), Jenny Lane, and Joshua Crowner, her step-grandchildren, Blane White, U.S. Navy, and Devon White, great-grandchildren Sydney, McKenzie, and Travis Vaala, Gillian McDaniel, Allison Lane, and step-great-grandchildren Marina and Kaito White. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Lois Berends of Indianola, Nebraska, Jeannie Berends of Spencer, her God children Darrel and David Frerichs, Gary Noble and Bonnie Boetel, and several nephews and nieces whom were very special to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Pearl Frerichs (John), brothers Archie and Leslie Berends, great-grandson Trenton Crowner, and nephew Dennis Berends.
