Officer Charles B. Abernathy, DSN 2153, received his commission and entered the academy on May 16, 1983. After the academy, he was assigned to the 9th District on September 02, 1983. It should be noted that very few officers have the privilege of serving their entire career in the same district. Officer Abernathy was one of these officers. During his career, Officer Abernathy was awarded 2 Chief Letters of Commendation on April 13, 1984, and September 26, 1996 for police work above and beyond the call of duty. Officer Abernathy retired on December 31, 2007 after having served 24.63 years of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Charlie's brother, Frederick Abernathy Jr. DSN 9023, also served on the department as a detective in the 8th District on Deer Street.
