William Thomas Persons was born 15 February 1925 in Minneapolis, MN to Harvey William Persons and Beatrice Agnes Jordan. Bill was the second child of seven children.

After graduating in 1942 from Elk River High School, Bill enlisted in the US Navy and served until 1945. He received commendations and battle campaign ribbons for his duties as the ship's radio operator aboard the USS Sigsbee. The Navy destroyer participated in numerous important battles in the Pacific theatre until it was destroyed by a Japanese suicide bomber.

After his honorable discharge, Bill earned bachelor degrees from the University of Portland and the University of Minnesota. On Jun 13, 1953 Bill was married to Mary Jean Ramier in Minneapolis, MN.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Jean; sons, Michael William (Cindy), Daniel Thomas (Connie), Patrick Joseph (Becki), David Gerard (Terri); daughters, Mary Josephine (Ismail) Francois and Kathleen Margaret (Tony) Grissom; 10 grandchildren, Lindsey, Brett , Sally Ann, Colin, Teaghan, Patrick, Ryan, Micah Francois, Alisha Francois and Dominique Francois; sisters, Eileen Lynott, Bea (Maurice) Townsend and Alice (Irwin)D'Addario; brothers, Bob (Patty), Pat (Yoko) and Richard.
