Calvin David “Cal” Dietrich, 83, of Scottsbluff, died Sunday, February 3, 2008 at his home. Private Memorial Services will be held Thursday, February 7, 2008, at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff, with Pastor Ron Nuss-Warren officiating. In keeping with his wishes, his remains were cremated.

Cal was born November 20, 1924 at Simpson, Kansas to LeRoy and Florence O. (Pearson) Dietrich. The family lived in Hemingford, Nebraska for a short time, and when Cal was seven years old, he moved with his family to the Gering valley. He was educated in the Gering schools and graduated from Gering High School with the class of 1942. In June of 1947, he was united in marriage to Mary Helen Galusha in Loveland, Colorado. Cal and Mary Helen farmed in the Gering valley with his father for many years. He worked for Cawley’s Tater Flakes, Montgomery Wards, and he and his wife owned and operated the Uniform and Maternity House in Scottsbluff. After he retired, he assisted his son, Sam, in his business in Gering.

Cal was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association, Bluffs Shooters, and the Scottsbluff Elks Lodge #1367. He was a good man, husband and father. He will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched

He is survived by his sons Sam Dietrich of Gering, Greg (Rexina) Dietrich of Redmond, WA, his daughter Linda Fisher of Kansas City, MO, his sister Charlene Cawley of Scottsbluff and grandchildren Julia Fisher, Jennifer Cowling, Carl Dietrich, Mellany Dietrich and Mike Dietrich. His special friend and caregiver Rae Ann Schmitz of Scottsbluff, special friend Shelli Morgan of Scottsbluff and numerous great grandchildren also survive him.

His parents, wife Mary Helen, his brothers Leonard and Roy and his sister Charlotte Humphrey preceded him in death.
