Leland C. Stanford, 85, of Southwest City, MO, died on Tuesday, July 11, 2000 at 10:57 a.m. at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, CO after an illness. Mr. Leland C. Stanford was born in Booneville, AR on July 17, 1914 to the late Thomas Earl and Josie (Bangs) Stanford. He had lived in Southwest City, MO since 1992 from Tulsa, OK. He did auto body work in the Tulsa area. For the last 18-1/2 years of his career he worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He started the first post office body shop in the nation, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Southwest City First Baptist Church. He served in the Navy Seabees. He was also a member of the Southwest City American Legion and a 32nd Degree Mason in Tulsa, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Virginia Loving and 1 brother, Thomas Earl Stanford. He is survived by: his wife of 66 years, Bonnie and a half sister, Wanda Tapper of Colorado Springs, CO; nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends. Funeral service for Mr. Stanford will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2000 at 10 a.m. at the Southwest City First Baptist Church in Southwest City, MO. Reverend Ray Claxton and Reverend Kenneth Preston will officiate. Pallbearers will be Dr. Rob Anderson, Paul Bates, Bryan Bowen, Leland Bowen, Joe Harmon and Keith Lindquest. Honorary pallbearers will be Herbert Bowen, Wayne Bryant, James Hall, Ben Kitchell and J.D. Townsend. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2000 at 4 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester, OK.
