Grandson of Bernice Ashton, son of Doretha & Walter Jacobs, husband of Charlita Lindsay Ashton, father of Tony, Tawana, Tara, Jessica and Jennifer. Grandfather of five and Great Grandfather of one.

Barry and Charlita were married July 25, 1981 at St. Mary's Baptist Church in D.C.

He was a much-loved employee of D.C.'s Department of Recreation for over 42 years. He diligently served as a coach in many different sports for numerous recreation centers, Boys & Girls Club's, grade school's and college teams throughout the area. Most recently he served as an assistant coach for Howard University Women's Softball League. He refereed school basketball leagues for many years, belonging to the Associated Approved Basketball Officials (IABBO), Maryland Athletic Association and VA High Schools.

Fastpitch softball was his passion. Barry was an exceptional pitcher - one of the best in the Washington Metro Region. He received many softball awards with his crowning achievement being induction into the Greater Washington Fastpitch Hall of Fame in 2000.

Following "The Homegoing Service" held at St. Mary's Baptist Chruch, Washington, D.C. on July 15, 2006 interment was in Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD.
