A death notice for Mary (Jendro) Otremba appeared in the Thursday, January 10, 1963 edition of Beach, North Dakota's "The Golden Valley News" newspaper. That notice read as follows:

"Mrs Otremba Dies, Services Jan. 8th

"Mrs. Mary Otremba of this community passed away at the new Golden Valley County Hospital in Beach on Saturday, January 5, 1963. Mrs. Otremba, 88, was one of this community's long-time residents.

"Funeral services were held for her this Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Golva, with Rev. Francis Seidel officiating. Serving as pallbearers were William Szudera, Jr., Charles Scherman, Edward Scherman, Werner Nistler, Jr., Merle Sonnek and Kenneth Sonnek. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

"A complete obituary will follow, in a later edition of this newspaper."

The following week's Thursday, January 17, 1963 edition of The Golden Valley News wrote the following obituary on Mary (Jendro) Otremba, accompanied by a photograph of her taken in her later years:

"Rites Accorded Mrs. M. Otremba

"Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mary Otremba, 88, one of the Alpha community's long-time residents, on Tuesday, January 8, 1963 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Francis Seidel celebrating the Requiem high mass in St. Mary's Catholic Church at Golva. Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery beside her husband. Serving as pallbearers were her grandsons , Wm. Szudera Jr., Charles Scherman, Edward E. Scherman, Merl Sonnek, Werner Nistler, Jr., and Kenneth Sonnek. She succumbed Saturday, Jan. 5 at 12:55 p.m. at the new hospital in Beach, after one week's hospitalization.

"Mrs. Mary Otremba was born at Elmdale, Minn., on May 2, 1875, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Jendro. On Nov. 9, 1896, she was married to Charles L. Otremba in Pierz, Minn., and they were residents of Little Falls, Minn., for ten years. In 1906 they came to North Dakota, where they homesteaded 20 miles south of Sentinel Butte. In 1946 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. She was a member of St. Joseph's altar society, Little Falls, and St. Mary's of Golva. Her husband preceded her in death December 10, 1947.

"She is survived by her children, Mrs. Peter Hagen, Mrs. Ed Scherman and Carl Otremba of Sentinel Butte; Mrs. Wm. A. Szudera, Mrs. Robert Sonnek and Mrs. Werner Nistler of Beach; Mrs. Gertrude Thomas of Glendale, Calif.; 34 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and one daughter, Lillian preceded her in death, having died at the age of seven.

"She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Susie Green of Little Falls, Minn., and preceding her in death were her parents; Mr. and Mrs. Anton Jendro, two sisters and four brothers.

"Relatives from a distance attending the funeral services were Mrs. Annie Gohl and son Lawrence, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Otremba of Pierz, Minn., Mrs. Adaline Johnson, Billings, Mont., Mrs. Gertrude Thomas, Glendale, Calif., Mrs. Elizabeth Jendro, Wibaux, Mont., and Mr. and Mrs. John Sura, Glendive, Mont., Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Szudera, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Edward Scherman and family, and Mr. and Mrs. George Michels and family, all of Glendive, Mont., Mrs. Mardell Payseno, Bismarck, and Mr. and Mrs. Roland Brown, of Hysham, Mont."
