Smith-Hightower Wedding Date Set
The marriage of Miss Vernon Lane Hightower and Maffett Kennard Smith will take place Thursday evening, June 7, at 8:15, at the University Methodist church in the presence of relatives and friends. Immediately following the ceremony there will be a reception at the home of the bride's parents for the bridal party and a few intimate friends.

Dr. Vernon Hightower Smith, age 88, of San Antonio, died Sunday, January 12, 1986.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maffit K. Smith.
Dr. Smith was a former resident of Austin. She earned her BA, MA, and PhD degrees from the University of Texas at Austin; and was a member of University United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Smith Thomas; and son-in-law, J.C. Thomas; grandchildren, Lane Kennard Thomas, all of Austin, and Lucinda Thomas Ferguson of Irving, Texas, Captain John Robert Watkins of Lake Charles, Louisiana; and three great-grandchildren.
Services Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 PM, in the Colonial Chapel of the Porter Loring Mortuary. The Reverend Robert Freestate and the Reverend John McMullen officiating. Interment in Sunset Memorial Park.
