George Wellington Jackson Sr., 80, died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot, Idaho, of heart failure resulting from an infection of the intestinal track.

He was born April 10, 1929, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Earnest and Veva Jackson. George farmed in the New Sweden area until 1966, when he went to work at Argonne National Laboratory. He retired in 1983 and moved to Blackfoot, Idaho, where he was active in Parents Without Partners and volunteered with the Bingham County Humane Society and the Idaho Potato Museum in Blackfoot. He became involved with the Bingham County Senior Citizens Center and served on its board of trustees, as well as having participated in many of its programs.

George married Dawnaline Wilding of Rexburg in 1949, and they moved to the New Sweden area. The couple had three children and were later divorced. In 1969, George married Carol Krumm of Idaho Falls, and they had two children. They had homes in Iona and LaBelle and were later divorced.

Surviving are his children, George W. "Jack" Jackson Jr. (Belinda Eastman) of San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico, Dawnie Jackson Baldo (Bruce) of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo., James M. "Jim" Jackson (Jyl) of Idaho Falls, Liisa K. Jackson of Hopkinton, Mass., and Joel D. Jackson (Erin) of Payette, Idaho. George is also survived by three sisters, Katherine Johnson, Oma Jeanne Dixon and Vonda Tibbitts (Dan); one brother, Ernest "Bud" Jackson; and four grandchildren, Josh Jackson, Celia Jenkins, Theo and Vance Jackson. Also surviving are longtime friends of George, Margie Ugagki and her daughter, Julie Fuller (Paul), and children Whitney, Kelsey and Dylan Fuller, all of Blackfoot. His parents preceded him in death.

Services will be held Friday, June 18, 2010, under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot, Idaho. Condolences may be sent online to the family at hawker @hawkerfuneralhome .com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bingham County Senior Citizens Center on behalf of the Jackson family. The family wants to express special thanks to Shonna Scott for all of her help and kind care during the final years of Dad's life. Shonna is truly a saint.
