Former Lodi Woman Passes
Mrs. Caroline F. Lucas, 95, a former Lodi Resident, passed away Friday evening at her residence in Santa Cruz, Calif. Mrs. Lucas was born May 31, 1856, in Drew County, Ark. When she was 12 years old, her family moved to Texas, where she completed school and later married John M. Baker, Sr. Baker was killed in 1877 trying to apprehend robbers.
In 1884, she married the late N. C. Lucas. They came to California in 1908 and settled in the San Joaquin Valley near Lodi. Mrs. Lucas lived in this area until 1932 at which time she moved to Santa Cruz. She was an ardent worker and a member of the Bethel Tabernacle church of Lodi.
Mrs. Lucas is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Jettie Phomason, Mrs. Fannie Carney, and Mrs. Nita Ford, all of Santa Cruz; Mrs. Leona Ford of Keys, and Mrs. Cora Taylor, Lodi.
Other surviving relatives are two sons, Newell Lucas of Santa Ana, and G.T. Lucas of Ceres, Calif.; 23 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 28 great-great-grandchildren.
