ELBERT E. HELT, a prominent resident of Clinton township and a member of one of the oldest pioneer families of that community, died at 4:30 p.m. yesterday in the Vermillion County Hospital where he had been a patient for only a few hours. He had been in failing health for the past 6 months.

Helt, a teacher in the Helt township schools for 50 years, was born February 8, 1862, the son of Eli and Mary Jacks Helt, and had lived his entire life in that community. He was a member of the Masonic Unity Lodge No. 344 at Perrysville and the Center Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Abbie; two sons, Hubert and Heber at home; 5 grandchildren, one brother, Edgar of Los Angeles, CA, and a host of friends.

The body was taken to the Frist Funeral Home on Blackman St., where it will remain until 1 p.m. It will be removed to the Center Church and lie in state one hour prior to the services.

Rev. D.E. Noland of the Fairview Methodist Church is the officiating minister and Masonic rites will be held at the grave. Burial is to be in Helt's Prairie Cemetery.

All persons wishing to view the body are asked to call at the funeral home of the church before the services, as the casket will be closed at that time.
