Queen Easter Shootes was born in Americus, Georgia on 8 August 1908, the youngest child of Issac "Ike" Joseph Shootes (1867-1904?) and Louisa "Lula" Hayes Shootes (1867-?). She attended Tuskegee Institute (1930-1934, BA Home Economics), Columbia University (1937-1939, MS) and University of Wisconsin (1951, Ph.D.).

Between 1934 and 1949, she was appointed as Assistant Professor (later Department Head) of the Department of Home Economics at Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee AB. Between 1949 and 1953 she worked as Head of the Department of Home Economics at Lincoln University in Jefferson City MO. Between 1953 and 1955 she received a Fulbright Scholarship, using the scholarship to help establish a home economics program in Trinidad and Tobago. Between 1955 and 1958, she worked as Member of United Nations Food & Agriculture Committee in Trinidad, West Indies. She returned to Tuskegee Institute in 1960, where she was an Instructor in Personal and Home Management before being appointed Dean of the School of Home Economics and Food Administration Institute from 1960 to June 1968. In July 1968 she was appointed associate dean of Tuskegee's School of Applied Sciences

On 13 August 1966 she married Lewis Wade Jones (1910-1979).

Queen Easter Shootes died on 3 January 1969 in John A Andrews Hospital, Tuskegee AL, age 60.
