Enlisted at Newburg, Maine Aug 8, 1862 at age 23 as a Quarter Master Sergeant into Field & Staff 11th Maine Infantry Regiment. Promoted 1st Sergeant of Co E Nov 1, 1862. Quarter Master sergeant 1863, 1st Lieutenant and Quarter Master Feb 16, 1864. Mustered out Feb 2, 1866.
