Benton was born in Kintersburg (Rayne Twp.), Indiana Co., PA, the son of Capt. John Kinter and Elizabeth Lingenfelter. He married Clara Mae Hines on February 28, 1905 in Indiana, Indiana Co., PA. He died in Rayne Twp., Indiana Co., PA.

Benton and Clara were the parents of one son, Benton Roy Kinter, who was born one month after his father died.

The following obituary appeared in the "Indiana Evening Gazette" (Indiana, PA) on Monday, July 16, 1906, page 1, column 2:

Benton B. [sic] Kinter, aged 29 years, 10 months and 12 days, died from consumption on Sunday, July 15, at the home of his father, Captain John Kinter, of Rayne township. The deceased is well known in Indiana, having been the proprietor of the Indiana House for a time. He is survived by his wife. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. E. Lee Perry, of this place. Interment will be made in the Washington church graveyard in Rayne township.
