Robert Thomas Owens Sr., age 79, of Spruce Pine passed away on July 14, 2015 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care.
He was born March 5, 1936 in Avery County, NC son of Imogene Meredeth Owens of Newland and the late Grady Owens.
Robert served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Newland Volunteer Fire Department.
He enjoyed wood working, fishing and hunting, especially hearing his beagles run.
Along with his father, Robert was preceded in death by his: first wife and mother of his children, Julie Brewer Owens; sisters, Doris McGuire, Glenda Isaacs; brother, Jake Owens; step-son, David Sparks; step-granddaughter, Aliza Sparks.
