Ernest Hartley, 76, of Batavia died Tuesday at Jefferson County Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Baker officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery. He was born on May 11, 1906 in Unionville to Leonard and Nancy (Good) Heartley. He was a retired farmer. He married Merle Marie Martin on July 1, 1929 in Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife; his daughters, Darlene Vivian Wells of Batavia and Irene Mae Filson of Birmingham; his sisters, Bertha Stevens of Promise City, Martha Elsie Stevens of Coatsville, Missouri, and Merna Hazel Worley of Bloomfield; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
