Born in Alton, August 5, 1924, he was a son of the late Ralph E. and Margaret (Spellman) Wallace.
He married the former Patricia Diestelkamp in Alton April 12, 1947.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mary Berger of Godfrey; two sons, John Wallace Jr., of Chicago, Ill., and Dr. Michael Wallace of Frontenac, Mo. 10 grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Adams of Zion Ill.
A brother, Ralph E. Wallace, preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Godfrey, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Alton, where he was a member. The Rev. Tom Meyer is celebrant.
Burial is in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to Masses or Marquette High School in Alton.
