Miss Eleanor Head Bailey was born on September 22, 1878 in Macon County, Tennessee, the daughter of Drury Birchett Bailey (1851-1925) and Penelope "Neppie" (Gammon) Bailey (1856-1930). Eleanor's middle name came from her maternal grandmother Amanda (Head) Gammon.

Teaching at Warner School and living at 2422 Highland, Nashville, she was 61 years old when she died of pulmonary TB at Davidson County Tuberculosis Hospital. Burial was the next day in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville.
