W.H. "Bill" Ehlers, 87, of 211 Adams St., Benson, died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, (Dec. 6, 2000) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

He was born Feb. 11, 1913, in Morgan County, Mo., a son of Albert and Meta Brunjes Ehlers. He married Esther Redenius on Oct. 12, 1940, at Benson. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin infant sons Stephen and Stanley, and four brothers.

Mr. Ehlers farmed, was self-employed as a feed mill operator, worked for Benson Elevator Co-op and, after retiring from Metamora Woodworking in 1978, worked for Benson Builders until 1985.

He was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Benson where he was treasurer and Sunday school teacher and served several terms on the church council.

He also was a member of the Board of Directors at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Flanagan, and a 12-year volunteer at Eureka Community Hospital in Eureka.
