[1909] PA-Mercer Cnty History(20th Cen-tury)-pg 783-85 Lists LORENZO D BATES; it names the children of RevJohn Bates; among them JOHN KINSMAN BATES, the eldest of the children born to RevJohn, was born 22 May 1810 & after the completion of his educational training he assisted his parents on the farm until his marriage. He then built the residence which stands on the old Bates farm & is now occupied by one of his sons & in connection with his farming Also engaged quite extensively in the manufacture of barrel staves from the timber on his farm. He was Republican in politics.
His wife Mary, born 25 Sep 1809, was a dau of B Sisley-a farmer at Sheakleyville PA; they became the parents of 16 children of whom the following are living: Anna, wife of M Hoover-of NewCastle PA; Elizabeth, wife of G Erdies-a carpenter in Chardon OH; Samantha, wife of H Kinney-a stockman of KinsmanOH; Louisa, wife of Soloman Barnes-of KinsmanOH-a farmer; Lorenzo-mentioned below; Jacob, who is living on the father's homestead in GreeneTwp; & JohnC, also farming in this township. JohnK Bates, the father of this family, died on 24 Jan 1893 & his wife died on 10 Mar 1887. Their marriage was celebrated on the 8 May 1834 & they were blessed by many years of happy married life & the birth of many children.
