Margaret C. Wallace, 82, of Alton died at 3:14 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Hospital following an illness of four weeks.

The Alton native, daughter of the late Matthew and Bridget Mary (O'Connell) Spellman, married Ralph Wallace on September 19, 1923 in Alton. He died September 11, 1953.

Surviving are a daughter, Peggy Adams of Zion, Ill., two sons, John Wallace and Harry McBride, both of Alton. Eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and a sister Nell Dwyer of Long Beach, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Lucille, Alice and Rose Elizabeth, also a son Ralph Wallace on December 22, 1977.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Staten Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with the Rev. James Hill as celebrant and burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

The church's building fund has been named as a memorial.
