BETTENDORF — Jackie A. Wessell, 80, of Bettendorf, passed away Friday, July 9, 2015, at Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2015, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly and Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. The family will greet friends 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Jackie was born in 1935 in Davenport to Edwin and Mernie Armil. She was united in marriage to LaVerne Wessell on May 20, 1961, in Davenport. He passed away on March 3, 2001.

Jackie spent many years working as a clerk at Geifman’s in Davenport, retiring in 1986. In earlier years, one of Jackie’s favorite pastimes was watching her sons play Little League baseball. She had been a longtime active member of First Christian Church. She loved to crochet and knit and was a member of a club that made and donated prayer shawls to others in need. She was passionate about her volunteer work for Genesis Hospice and Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, and was the volunteer with the most years of service. Jackie was an avid reader, and in recent years enjoyed reading her Bible daily at 4:30 a.m. She also enjoyed watching birds, and especially loved dogs and taking her dog Tilly to the dog park. It would also not be uncommon to see her watching “Judge Judy” daily.

Jackie is survived by her sons, Bruce Wessell, Bettendorf, and Ted (Rebecca) Wessell, Kansas City, Mo; a granddaughter, Hannah Wessell; a sister-in-law, Darlene Carlin; several nieces and nephews; and her loving dog, Tilly.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jackie was preceded in death by sisters, Shirley Schlotfeldt, and Francis Trede; and a brother, Robert Armil.
