Ernest Jay Culp, 86, of Mishawaka, IN passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the Golden Living Center, Elkhart, IN. He was born on March 23, 1929 to the late Everett Jay and Edna (Picking) Culp. On September 13, 1958 at the First United Methodist Church in Mishawaka, IN, he married Donna Peters, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Culp is survived by his sons, Douglas (Patty) Culp of Lafayette, IN and Eric J. (Jennifer) Culp of Osceola, IN; three grandchildren, Nicholas (Sarah) Culp, Karen Culp and Sarah Culp; two great-grandchildren, Lilyan and Adelyn; a sister, Shirley Myers of Scottsdale, AZ; and two brothers, Larry (Bonnie) Culp of Mishawaka, IN and Charles (Mary) Culp of South Bend, IN.

Mr. Culp was a foundry worker at Wheelabrator for many years. He also served as the 5th District Councilman for the City of Mishawaka. Mr. Culp served his country in the United States Air Force, receiving the Occupation Medal (Germany), the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Services Medal. Ernie was a member of First Baptist Church, Mishawaka for over 40 years.

Ernie enjoyed many pursuits during his life. He was a member of the Garden Club in Mishawaka. With his wife, Donna, he worked with the EEA Young Eagles Program in Elkhart. Ernie was proud to provide military honors for deceased veterans at the Military Honor Park. Donna and Ernie also had a beautiful association with the students at Bethel College. The students supported Ernie and his wife and they provided support in return.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Culp will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church; 724 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Burial will take place at Mishawaka City Cemetery; Jefferson and Liberty Streets, Mishawaka, IN 46544. Palmer Funeral Homes – River Park is assisting the family with arrangements.
