In 1844 her parents removed to Kewanee, Illinois, and there she was married to David W. Bennett, September 17, 1848, almost seventy years ago.
In 1879 they moved to Fremont county, Iowa, and in 1882 came to Lamoni. They dwelt on a farm about four miles southwest of Lamoni until Mr. Bennett died July 28, 1887.
Of ten children three died in their infancy and one, Mrs. Alice Thomas, wife of George Thomas, died April 30, 1917, in Michigan. Of the six living, Mrs. Rutilla Lester lives in Lamoni, Mr. Luvinas Bennett in Kewanee, Illinois, Mrs. Ann E. Mortimer in California, Mrs. Dora Purcell in Washington, Mrs. Frances Brooks in Pennsylvania, and Mr. Anson Bennett in Nebraska.
There are also twenty-eight living grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
In 1894 Mrs. Bennett was married to Mr. Chivington and sometime after his death to Mr. Toney.
Because of the advantages of church meetings and associations, she chose to live at the Saints' Home the past six years. She is held in honor by aid friends because of her kindly spirit and willing service, especially to the needy, her own home being a place of hospitality as long as she could labor.
When a child the use of one eye was lost by a scissor point accident, and for many years the other was of little use, until the sight entirely failed some years ago.
She became a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ, May 9, 1880, baptised by Elder J. R. Badham in Fremont county, Iowa. The funeral services were held at Saints' Home on Sunday afternoon, March 24, Elder John Smith in charge and H. A. Stebbins preaching.
