She was born May 15, 1925 to August and Selma Steinfath on a farm in the Irby Community between Haskell and Throckmorton. She graduated from Mattson Rural High School. She was valedictorian of her class, but did not go to college so she could stay at home and help on the family farm during World War II. She married Albert Zelisko on April 18, 1955 in Haskell. She worked as a housewife while he worked for a construction company. They lived in numerous towns, mostly in Oklahoma, before settling in Waco in 1966. She stayed at home to raise her family. When her youngest daughter was a high school senior, Mrs. Zelisko took a job outside the home. She worked as a clerk at Eckerd's Drug and later in the registration office at Baylor University.
She was active at her church, including teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She volunteered at her children's schools, the Red Cross, Girl Scouts, and baked cookies for Meals on Wheels.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Fritz Steinfath of Haskell; and two sisters, Annie Goebel of Haskell and Frieda Steinfath of Waco.
Survivors are: her husband, Albert of Waco; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Nancy Zelisko of Abilene; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Rob Adams of Houston, and Carole and Ted Oplinger of Bryan; three brothers, August Steinfath of Lubbock; three sisters, Selma Follstaedt of Haskell, Minnie Blair of Plains, and Lena Steinfath of Levelland; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, 77210; or Christ Lutheran Church, 3101 MacArthur Drive, Waco, 76708.
