Grandson of Elliott Elmer RAGER and Catharine Viola COOK. Twin brother of Col. Edward E. Rager.

Obituary:
Liut. Elmer E. Rager, 24, reared at Seward and a graduate of Johnstown High School as well as of West Point Military Academy, died at Walter Reed Hospital, Washington D.C., at 1:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He was a twin brother of Lieut. Edward E. Rager, stationed at Camp Ord, California, with whom he went through school, enlisted in the army and graduated last year at West Point, one of the few instances of twin brothers completing military training at that school. Lieutenant Elmer Rager was taken ill about the first of last December, a brain tumor having developed. He was stationed at Camp Jackson, Columbia, S.C., and was treated for seven weeks at a hospital there. Delicate operations were performed and when Lieutenant Rager was removed to the Washington hospital hope was entertained of saving his life. In constant attention upon him during his entire illness was his sister, Miss Mary Rager, graduate nurse from Roosevelt Hospital, New York.

Was Born at Derry
Born at Derry on July 3, 1915, Elmer E. Rager was a son of Charles C. Rager and Margaret (Jones) Rager. His mother died 15 years ago. The twin sons were reared by their paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Rager, Seward. After completing their grade school education there, they entered Johnstown High School and both graduated with high honors in the class of 1933. Immediately afterward both enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 22 months in the infantry, when Elmer Rager was selected from the enlisted men for officers' training at West Point. About the same time, Edward E. Rager received an appointment through Former Congressman William M. Berlin of Westmoreland County, and the Seward twins went through the military college with honors, being appointed second lieutenants. After a brief vacation at Seward, the twin brothers began active service as officers of the Army in widely separated areas.

Lieut. Edward E. Rager telegraphed last night that he was starting at one from California and would be here for the funeral, but did not indicate whether he would travel by plane. The remains of Lieut. Elmer E. Rager will arrive at Seward tonight from Washington. It was expected, but no arrangements have been made for the obsequies. The young officer was a member of the Seward Methodist Church. In addition to his father and paternal grandparents, Lieut. Elmer Rager is survived by a brother, Glenn, also reared at the grandparents' home, and the sister, Mary, already mentioned.
