Ella was the daughter of Charles Emerson Colburn II and Celinda Lydia "Selinda" Bailey. She married James Woods in August 1871 at Spencer, IA. They were the parents of 7 children: James, Daniel, Charles, William, Kirk, Anna, and Fannie.

July 20, 1888 - Newell Mirror - Died at her home in Newell, Sunday, July 15, 1888, Ella B., wife of James Woods, aged 33 years, 11 mouths and 21 days, of heart disease, complicated with pneumonia.

The deceased was born in Massachusetts and was married to James Woods in August, 1872, to whom she has borne 7 children, all of which survive her. The family came to reside in this town about three years ago.

Mrs. Woods always seemed to be a quiet, industrious and good lady, a kind mother and exemplary wife, and her death is therefore a sad and irreparable loss to the family who have the sincere and undivided sympathy of the whole community.

The funeral was held from the Congregational church last Tuesday and the remains interred in Newell cemetery.
