John was a graduate of Tescott High School and attended both Kansas State University and Kansas Wesleyan University. He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War.
John and Melba Yeager were united in marriage June 3, 1956, and made their home in Salina. He was employed by Dillons in several Kansas towns and served in many positions, including management.
He was a member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church. He had enjoyed being a member of the Master Gardeners; liked working outdoors with flowers and plants of all varieties. He was also active at the YMCA.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ernest Buck, sisters Ellen Collister and Lucy Carlson.
Survivors included his wife Melba; daughter Melanie Regnier; grandson Jason Regnier.
