Mary Jane Haselwood.
Mrs. James Haselwood died at her home, one mile east of the Old Bedford church, in Henderson county, at 4:55, Tuesday, afternoon, January 12, 1915. She had reached the age of 74 years 4 months and 6 days. She was bedfast for the last three months and for seventeen years was unable to walk without the aid of crutches as the result of rheumatic ailments.
Her maiden name was Sarah Jane Duncan, a daughter of Russel [sic] and Elizabeth Duncan. She was born in McDonough county, 1 1/2 miles south of the present Haselwood home, September 6, 1840. Her marriage to James Haselwood occurred Feb. 1860, and they were the parents of four children two of whom preceded the mother in death; a daughter at the age of 5 years, and a son, Willis, passed away in LaHarpe Sept. 27, 1913. The survivors are Mrs. Robert Worley, of the Bedford neighborhood and John, of Bloomington. There are also five grand-children [sic] and three great-grand-children [sic]. She was the last of her father's family of four children. The aged husband also survives but is in very feeble health.
Mrs. Haselwood was one of the best known women of the Bedford country and loved by all who knew her. She joined the Christian church in 1855, during the pioneer days, and before the Bedford church of that denomination was erected, a log cabin served as a place of worship. She will be sorely missed by the loved ones left behind.
The funeral occurred at the home Thursday at 10 o'clock a. m., Elder Catlin officiating, and the burial was in Glade cemetery, Blandinsville.~There was also a James W. Haselwood counted with James and Mary in 1870 (age 3) and 1880 (age 12.) In both 1900 and 1910 Mary reported five children born, 3 living.
