Death of Jas. S. Collins
James S. Collins, an old and highly respected citizen of Harrison County, died at his home, near Bethany, at 9 o'clock P.M., Tuesday, May 23, 1899, age 79 years 5 months and 25 days.

Deceased was born in Clermont County, Ohio, November 29, 1819, and moved with his parents to Hamilton County, Ohio, where he lived until he was 21 years of age, when he went to Bartholomew County, Indiana, where he married Mary Ann Doolittle, with whom he lived happily for 56 years, 8 months. To this union 13 children were born - 6 girls and 7 boys. Six of the children preceded him to the grave.

In 1850, deceased moved to Harrison County, MO., with his wife and family, and resided here continuously until his death. He leaves a sorrowing widow and seven children to mourn their loss.

He united with the M.E. Church at the age of nineteen, and ever lived a consistent, exemplary Christian life.

Deceased was a model citizen in every respect; one who was ever found on the right of every moral question, and a man whose strict integrity and high sense of honor deservedly secured the high esteem in which he was held by all who knew him.

In their bereavement the sorrowing ones have the consolation of knowing that he has gone to his reward -- to that house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
