CRESTLINE: Robert H. "Red" Allred, 97, of Crestline, was called home by the Lord on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Galion Community Hospital, Galion.

Robert was born in Columbia, TN on April 12, 1918 to the late John R. and Rachel (Johnson) Allred. He married Gracie L. Carney on August 2, 1941, and she survives him. They have celebrated nearly 74 years of marriage together.

After his father passed, Robert left school in the 6th grade to go to work. Robert lived in Crestline since 1939 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crestline. He worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad for 19 years and retired from General Motors in Ontario after 32 years of employment. He owned and operated Allred Sanitation for 30 years. It was the first sanitation service in Crestline. He was a Thirty-Three Degree member of Pride of Ohio, Prince Hall Lodge #80, Free and Accepted Masons, Mansfield, and Alla Baba Temple #53, Columbus. A true family man, he loved his family and his wife. Red was a father to all of his family; they knew there was always food to eat and a place to sleep for them in his home. His time away from the railroad was spent with his family on his boat at Lake Erie.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his two sons and his four daughters: Robbie Taylor, Kansas City, MO, Robert H. "Jimmy" Allred, Crestline, Shirley Hayes, Akron, Gloria Hairston, Crestline, Jerry Allred, Crestline, Carolyn Slaughter, Columbus; 18 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, nine grandchildren through marriage; his two sisters, Gladys Campbell, Columbia, TN, and Sally Reed, Hampton, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Dorothy Jane Allred, a stillborn son, Allen Henry Allred, a sister, Frances Allred, and a brother, Lewis Allred.

Friends may call Thursday July 9, from 7-9 P.M. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 223 West Main St. Crestline. Friends may also call after 10:00 AM until the funeral services at 12:00 PM on Friday, July 10, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Crestline, with Rev. James Banks officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline.
