Raymond Earl "Andy" Anderson, 85, son of John D. Anderson and Millie V. Ramey Anderson, was born Sept. 29, 1920, at Hendrix, Okla.

He died June 25, 2006, at Missouri Veterans Home at St. James.

He graduated from high school in Achille, Okla., in 1940 and enlisted in the US Army in July, beginning his military service at Fort Bliss, Texas, in the 1st Cavalry Division. During WW II, he served with a forward medical supply depot in India and Burma.

When the US Air Force was formed in 1948, he transferred to that branch of the service for a military career of 22.5 years. The day after the Korean War began, he was flown to Itazuke Air Force Base, Kyushu, Japan, for the remainder of the war. He served three years in Anchorage, Alaska, while it was still a territory. During his military career, he earned the Air Force Commendation Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Defense Service Medal with two bronze service starts, WW II Victory Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button for WWII, Good Conduct Medal with bronze loop, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Korean Presidential Unit Citation.

He married Wilma Deanne Kerby on April 21, 1943, in Chandler, Ariz.

They had one son

After Mr. Anderson retired from the Air Force on Jan. 1, 1964, he was the city building inspector in Denison, Texas, for several years.

He built houses there and in Bryan County, Okla., until retiring and moving to Texas County in 1983.

He loved horses and raised and rode them all his life. His move to Missouri was based partly on the purchase of some Missouri fox trotters and the proximity to Fort Leonard Wood.

His other hobbies were raising a big vegetable garden, building, and remodeling houses, and attending horse shows.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Houston, a 50-year Mason in Colbert, Okla., 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in McAlester, Okla., consistory, and a former Lynch Township Republican committeeman.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jon Kerby Anderson, in 1982; and his parents.

Surviving is his wife of 63 years; two grandsons and five great-grandchildren.
