Mr. James Vanderbilt Adams, 82, Gadsden, went to celebrate Jesus' birthday, Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008. A chapel service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Adams worked for the city of Gadsden over the Sanitation Department for 30 years and after his retirement worked 18 years as a security guard for various agencies. He also served his country in World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Rosa Lee Adams; sisters, Florence Ann Lairemore, Willie Dean Bayne and Sarah Virginia "Jean" Jones; and brother, John Lewis Adams. He is survived by his loving and very caring wife of 62 years, Lillie Mae Adams; brother, Billy Joe (Jane) Adams; best friend, "Lucy Baby," his Chihuahua whom he loved dearly; and although he had no children, he had many nieces, nephews, children of friends and children in the neighborhood who he treated with love and kindness.
