Obituary for Helen Camp Culpepper Short
Helen Camp Culpepper Short, 81, of Pine Bluff, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2006. She had been a resident of Trinty Village for many years.
She was born June 10, 1924 in England, Arkansas a daughter of the late William F. Camp and the late Ida Lillian Wilson Camp. She was reared and received her early education in Sherrill, Arkansas, attending Sherrill schools.
Helen Camp married J. D. Culpepper on December 21, 1938. In 1948 they moved to Pine Bluff. After Mr. Culpepper's death, she married Pete Short on December 12, 1954
Mrs. Short worked for Bill Harper's Grocery and at Baim's Department Store. She worked for Dillard's for thirteen years as a sales associate until retiring in 1990.
She was a member of East Side Baptist Church, former member of the Crown Club, American Red Cross Volunteers, VIPS, and past President of First Ward PTA. Mrs Short recieved the titles of Resident of the Year and Volunteer of the Year at Trinity Village.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, J.D. Culpepper in 1954 and Pete Short in 1989,three sons Bernie Short, Joe Short and Larry Culpepper and one grandson, Steven Hankins.
Survivors include two sons, J.D. Culpepper, Jr. of Mesquite, Texas, Marty Short of Pine Bluff; two daughters, Marquitta Magnini of Pine Bluff, Jean Hankins of Redfield, eight grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 27, 2006 from 6 till 8 PM at Ralph Robinson & Son. Services will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at 2 PM at East Side Baptist Church, with Reverend Ray Edmonson and Reverend C.W. Camp officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
The family will be at the Magnini residence, 1124 Grider Field Road.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to East Side Baptist Church, 1605 Wisconsin Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71601 or Trinty Village, 6400 Trinity Drive, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, 71603.
