Etta May Butler was born in Steelville, Crawford County, Missouri to James Andrew Butler and Cora Pearl Carter. She had one brother, Jewel Irwin Butler. Her mother divorced and married Willis Carpenter; she gained a sister, Gladys Irene and another brother, Willis Pearl. Her father also remarried giving her another sister, Ruth Marie and another brother, James Leroy. She attended the Nixon and Liberty schools. In 1920 she moved to St. Louis (Missouri)where she was employed in domestic work for several families. July 10, 1920 she married John M. Gregory in Clayton, St. Louis, MO. John passed away in 1938. Frank Woodson became her second husband September 23, 1939 (St. Louis, Missouri). She would marry once more after the passing of her second husband (1965) to Milton F. Schulze, March 1, 1970. They moved to Bourbon, MO. He passed away in 1975. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon. She passed away at the Sullivan Nursing Center in January 1990 at the age of 85.
