Herman Franklin Barber died at the age of 86 peacefully at his home on May 4, 2015. He was born February 8, 1929, to Henry and Elsie (Miller) Barber in Edmond, Oklahoma.

As a lifelong resident of Edmond, he worked as a farmer before owning Barbers Conoco for many years. He also worked as a distributor and a district manager for Mac, Matco, and Cornwell Tool Companies, until his retirement.

Herman was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He served his country from February 1946-February 1948. His service was in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatre. He also participated in the occupation of Northern China in 1946-1947. A buddy in the marines introduced him to the love of his life, Betty Burns. They were married on May 4, 1948. As his time was near the end all he wanted was to live until they could celebrate 67 years of marriage together.

He is preceded in death by his son Donald Ray Barber, a son-in-law James Heltcel, his parents, 5 brothers, and 1 sister.

He is survived by his wife Betty of the home, 2 daughters Cecelia Heltcel, Marilyn and husband Jimmie Priest of Edmond, son Jerry Barber and wife Patsy of Bartlesville, daughter-in-law Kathy Barber of Duncan, 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, sister Helen Henderson of Edmond, an aunt Ruby McDaniel of Edmonds.

Services held at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel, 601 S. Kelly in Edmond, Oklahoma, on Friday, May 8, at 10:00 a.m.

Any special remembrances may be directed to the American Cancer Society .
