Max Luther Bennett, age 89, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Seasons Of Life Living Center in Syracuse, Kan.
He was born on June 18, 1926 in Elk City, Kan., the son of Daniel Luther Bennett and Zelda Flora (Wright) Bennett. Max moved to Syracuse in the mid 1940's where he met the love of his life, Rose Eileen Crotinger.
Max and Rose were married on Nov. 16, 1947. This union was blessed with five children.
Max worked at the Mobil Station in Syracuse before moving to the Jackson ranch where he farmed until moving back into Syracuse in the 1970's. Max had various jobs before going to work as a rural mail carrier until he retired in 2000. Max was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a 25 year member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Syracuse. Max enjoyed working on and restoring old vehicles, welding, and yard work.
Survivors include two brothers, Melvin George Bennett and wife Verlie of Syracuse, and Chester Dale Bennett and wife Cheryl of Independence, Kan.; one sister, Flora Jean Gilfillan and husband Bob of Manchester, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rose Eileen (Crotinger) Bennett; two daughters, Patricia M. (Bennett) Knipp and Dorothy J (Bennett) Munyan; three sons, Daniel Lee Bennett, Max L. Bennett, Jr., and David Lynn Bennett; one brother, Dickie Lee Bennett; two sisters, Viola "Marie" Bennett and Ruby Virginia (Bennett) Hughes; one grandson, Joshua David Bennett.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. MDT Monday, July 6, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church in Syracuse. Burial followed at Syracuse Cemetery.
