Evelyn E. Abell, 88, of Bethany, passed into her eternal rest on December 22, 2009, at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She previously resided in South Windsor and West Granby. Evelyn was born in Portland, OR, daughter of Carl and Clara (Joeger) Halverson, and raised in Sacramento, CA. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Charles W. Abell, She is survived by two sons, Ted Abell and his wife, Roberta, of Bethany, and Stan Abell and his wife, Karen, of South Windsor, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Walter Kunze of Arlington Heights, IL and Mary and Robert Newton of Panama City, FL, a sister-in-law, Betty Halverson of Vacaville, CA, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, all of whom she adored. Evelyn was predeceased by her three brothers, Harold, Richard and Donald Halverson. Evie, as she was known to many, was an avid golfer, card player, and crossword puzzler and an accomplished seamstress and knitter. She was active for many years in the West Granby United Methodist Church and later a member of the Wapping Community Church in South Windsor and the South Windsor Senior Center. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Connecticut Hospice for the special care they gave Evelyn during her final days.
