Mrs. Betty Zane Caswell Waters, age 88, of Roopville, Georgia entered into Glory on Friday morning, December 9, 2016 at her residence, the same homeplace where she was born. She was born June 25, 1928 in Heard County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Amos Cleveland Caswell and the late Minnie Leona Davis Caswell. She graduated from Centralhatchee High School in Heard County, West Georgia College, Georgia Southern, received her Masters Degree at the University of Florida and completed her studies at the University of Georgia. On August 7, 1949, she married the love of her life, Fred Waters. She was a retired school teacher, having taught in Florida and in several counties in Georgia, retiring from Carroll County Board of Education. She was a talented musician, having served as church organist and served as chairperson for a hospice unit. She enjoyed her flower gardens, listening to music, reading, art (watercolor) and designing and sewing clothing. Her most cherished memories were worshipping her Lord and Savior, sharing her life with her loving husband, and serving as missionaries to Uganda and St. Petersburg, but especially the mission field of everyday life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Waters, in February, 2016;sisters: Mildred Velma Matthews, Grace Caswell Dyal, Ilva Caswell Walls, and Sara Lou Caswell Holbrook; and brothers: A. Bernard Caswell, W. Wayne Caswell, and W. Sylvester Caswell. Survivors include her children: Judith Elaine “Judy” Bryan of Jacksonville, Florida, Joy Lynne (Sam) Hagins of Carrollton, Janna Kaye (Bill) Atkins of Marietta, and adopted daughter, Terri (Mike) Whitehurst of Acworth; grandchildren: Lon B. Bryan, IV, Courtney Waters Bryan Stoner, Karah Zane Hagins, Amanda Kaye Hagins, Rebekah Simpson Nelson, Will Atkins, Barrett Atkins, Anna Kate Atkins, Darius Dalton, Meredith Lenoir and Andrew McElveen; and the joy of her life, her great granddaughter, Rosemary Joy Nelson and her great grandsons: Declan Bryan Stoner, Davis Chancellor Stoner, and William Waters Stoner . Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Roopville Road Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Peeples, Rev. Bobby Robinson, and Mr. Barrett Atkins officiating. Those serving as pallbearers will be Don Caswell, Lon Bryan, Will Atkins, Barrett Atkins, Darius Dalton, and Andrew McElveen. Honorary pallbearers will be Corley Holbrook, Jimmie Connor, Billy Caswell, Dale Crawford, and Mark Maxwell. Interment will follow in Unity Baptist Church Cemetery. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude for the love and devotion of caregivers Pat Hosey, Kim Flaga, Judy Johnson, and Mary Smith.
