Sandra Marie Miller, 58, of Quincy, Illinois, USA went to be with Jesus at 8:15 a.m. Monday (July 6, 2015) at her home, with her family by her side and the spirits of her mother and husband standing vigil on the other side.

Sandy was born Oct. 9, 1956, in Quincy, a daughter and third child of Carl and Rita (Schnier) Nelson. She married Larry E. Miller on Nov. 3, 1979, in Quincy. He died March 27, 2011.

Sandy was a graduate of Quincy Senior High School. She later graduated as a registered nurse with an associate degree in nursing from John Wood Community College. Sandy worked for Blessing Hospital for 32 years, mostly as an RN in the ICU.

She enjoyed quilting her entire life and took up china painting in later years, where she painted Christmas ornaments for her grandchildren. She was a member of the Quincy China Painters.

Sandy loved to travel with Larry, as well as canning and pickling produce from their garden. Sandy loved being around dogs, and loved rescuing and adopting Australian shepherds. Sandy was a wonderful mama to her baby girl, Jennifer.

Sandy wanted people whom she worked with at Blessing Hospital to know that she loved them. She also wanted the nurses and staff of Blessing Cancer Center and Blessing Hospice to know that she appreciated and loved them and that they were all so wonderful to her.

Sandra is survived by a daughter, Jennifer M. (Thomas) Begner of Columbus, Ind.; four siblings, Donna Briggs of Quincy, Stephen (Neva) Nelson of Quincy, Lisa (Steve) Ballard of Glendale, Ariz., and Ronald (Sandy) Nelson of Payson; nine grandchildren, Brian, Andrew, Eric, Samantha, Casey, Rebecca, Matthew, Cami and Brandon Begner, all of Columbus; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Chelf and Rilee Elliott, both of Columbus; an adopted son, James (Kristy) Kirtley of Tennessee; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and a lifelong furry friend, Cubby.

In addition to her husband, Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, a half-brother Mark Keith Nelson of Elkhorn, NE, and a brother-in-law, Robert "Bob" Briggs.

SERVICES: Visitation was from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2015 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home in Quincy. Christian services began at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Smith officiating. The funeral ended with an inurnment ceremony in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, dozens of donated bags of dog food were on display at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home and then later taken to KRAH Pet Food Pantry, as was done when Sandy's husband, Larry, passed away.
