Bernice Virginia Brooks Cox, 80, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph Edward "Hunbun" Cox for over 40 years. Born May 22, 1935, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Owen Herschel Brooks and Nellie Reeves Brooks. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Ray Brooks, Curtis Brooks and Jennie Eisenhower. Bernice was a loving mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She was a retired claims adjuster with Nationwide Insurance with over 25 years of service and a longtime faithful member of Keystone Baptist Church.Bernice loved opera music and had traveled to Florida in February to see Andrea Bocelli. She loved traveling especially taken her grandchildren to the beach after each school year. She enjoyed crafts, making diaper cakes for many baby showers and participated in working with Relay For Life and Gleaning For The World. She leaves to cherish her memory a son, a daughter, a stepdaughter, four grandchildren, a brother, a special nephew, her church family; and many other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Bernice's Life and Faith will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Keystone Baptist Church, 212 Fleetwood Drive, Lynchburg, by the Rev. Dr. J. Monty Fox with burial to follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the residence, 324 Keywood Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24501.The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses of Centra Health for their loving care and support.Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bernice Cox to the American Cancer Society, 2050 Langhorne Rd.
