Frances Elaine Vann, 69, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Friday, July 3, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Turner Chapel of St. Luke United Methodist Church with Reverend Cynthia Garrard officiating. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 at Striffler-Hamby at Parkhill in the St. Elmo room.

Born on December 30, 1945 in Valdosta, Georgia to the late Anita Hunt Vann and Carl Weston Vann, Elaine was an accomplished educator. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1963, Valdosta State University in 1967, continuing on with a Masters from Georgia State University and a six year certificate from Auburn University. Elaine was a teacher at Jordan High School for over 30 years, she was a Star Teacher multiple times, Teacher of the Year several times, past president of the Exchange Club, active volunteer at the Infantry Museum; KD Sorority at Valdosta State University; KDPi Educators Sorority; Historic Society of Columbus.

Frances Elaine Vann is survived by her brothers, Carl W. Vann, Jr. (Debbie Wright) of Atlanta, GA and John B. (Beth) Vann of Bluffton, SC; her nieces, Sarah (Drake) DuRant, Amanda Vann, Laura (Andy) Knorr and Jennifer Gay; her nephews, Brandon (Christina) Vann and Drew Vann; her daughter, Cynthia Akins; her grandson, Nicolas (Jodi) Jordan; her beloved Jack Russells, Annie and Amos.
