Richard Lee "Chief" Ainsworth Sr.
(February 20, 1933 - July 5, 2006)
Richard was born in Danvers, Massachusetts, to Francis and Berneice Ainsworth, the second of three children. He is a 1951 graduate of Holten High School, Danvers. In the spring of 1953 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for over thirty years retiring with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He is a Veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His unselfish devotion to duty and professional ability led to the following decorations and medals; Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters; Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters; Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters; Air Force Good Conduct Medal with five oak leaf clusters; Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon; NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon; Good Conduct Medal Army with two bronze clasps; Korean Service Medal; Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with six oak leaf clusters; National Defense Service Medal with one bronze star; Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster; United Nations Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked for several years at Doc Stewart Chevrolet and Buick Company Clovis, New Mexico.
Richard and Alice Pcheny of Salem Massachusetts were married on October 30, 1955. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past October.
Alice survives along with four of their five children. Deborah Marie and her husband Joseph Danner, Edward James and his wife Kynda, Brian Peter and his wife Melissa, and John Francis and his wife Barbara. Other survivors include 9 grandchildren, Catherine, Michael, Stephen, Jacob, John, Briana, Jessica, Justice and Justin and one great grandchild, Madelyn. He is also survived by his sister Audrey and her husband Stuart Adler, and his brother Robert Ainsworth and his wife Marion as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and oldest son, Richard Lee Jr., who died in an automobile accident in 1986. He was a devoted husband and father who took great pride in the accomplishments of his children.
He was surrounded by his wife and children when he passed away at Presbyterian Hospital Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Services will be conducted Monday, July 10, 2006 at Muffley Funeral Home Chapel, Clovis New Mexico, with a celebration of his life beginning at 11 a.m., Chaplain Robert Gallagher officiating. There will also be a Rosary said in his honor on Sunday, July 9, 2006 at the same location beginning at 7:00 p.m. Full military honors will be presented by Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard.
Following the service the body will be taken to Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico for burial.
