The death of Alice was caused by a rattlesnake bite from which she died within 3-4 hours. She was in the yard of the home playing with her dog.

The death was a loss for the mother, Letitia, only 21 years of age. He husband mustered out of the 12th Indiana Volunteers, less than a month after his daughter's death; but then he died less than 7 months later in a military hospital in Grand Junction, TN from pneumonia. He is buried in the Corinth National Cemetery in Mississippi.

DEATH FROM RATTLESNAKE BITE - A beautiful little girl three years of age, daughter of a man by the name of Jones, residing in White county, in this State, was bitten by a rattle snake on last Sunday, July 20, while out in the yard playing, and died in three hours afterwards.

He has been researching the Massasauga rattlesnake for over 25 years, and found young Alice to be one of the victims of this poisonous snake.
