Velma Dorris (Reynolds) Hartline, 92, passed from this life Monday, August 18, 2003 at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, MO, following a lengthy illness.

She was born to Olive May (Hartsock) Reynolds and Charles Almond Reynolds May 29, 1911 in Walker, MO. Born into to a large family of 14 children, 11 living to adulthood, she was the 13th child. The Reynolds family reared their children near LaCygne, KS, and the Ketterman area near Walker, MO.

Velma married Marion William Hartline at Walker, MO, on August 9, 1931. To this union, one child was born, Vada Ardith. Marion died at the age of 58 on July 1, 1969.

Mr. and Mrs. Hartline made their home on a farm 3 ½ miles northwest of Walker where they farmed and raised black-angus cattle for approximately thirty years. They were members of the Walker Christian Church. Following the death of her husband Mrs. Hartline moved to Nevada, MO, where she continued to live until her death, transferring her church membership to Community Christian Church, Nevada.

Mrs. Hartline shared her home with a sister, Lulu Forkner, for approximately eight years in the 1970-80s. Lulu and Velma were also caregivers to their sister Emogene for a short time prior to her death.

The Reynolds family shared a love for music and met weekly until their health no longer permitted them to do so. Any of six sisters could play piano and some could play the organ, with other relatives and friends joining in singing. Mrs. Hartline also sang and played instruments with a volunteer group that included one of her sisters, entertaining residents in Nevada and surrounding area care centers until her health began to fail.

Survivors include her daughter Ardith Spencer, Nevada, and her youngest sibling, sister Floy Rynard, also of Nevada. In addition, she is survived by sisters-in-law, Pearl Scotten, Nevada, Murle Berry, Kansas City and Betty Wenner, Hermitage, MO, nieces, nephews and all the adopted extended family at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada.

Funeral services will be at Ferry Funeral Home Thursday morning, August 21, at 10:30, with Pastors Wes Anderson, Community Christian Church and Ziden Nutt, Executive Director of Good News Productions, Int'l,, Joplin, MO officiating. Burial to follow at Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
