In 1698 he and his brother, William bought land in Jericho and elsewhere in Oyster Bay from John Townsend, and two years later William assigned his interest in the property to Garret. Garret conveyed part of the property to Thomas Powell, Jr. of Bethpage in 1702. In 1711 he provided food for the militia in Oyster Bay and in 1715 he was in the militia there. He was mentioned ocassionally in Oyster Bay Town Records, and citied in the 1721 inventory of his mother's estate.
