Tom was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1920. He was the second child and only son of Dr. Charles Robert "Bob" Colburn and Dorothy Thomas Colburn.
His sisters were Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Colburn Green (1918-1990), Sally Louise Colburn Arwine (1922-1978) [Findagrave memorial# 77562235], and Lillian Colburn Allen (1925-1988) [Findagrave memorial# 16749965].
He served in the US Navy during WW II and in the Pacific as a Pharmacist Mate first class (medic) attached to the 13th Marine out of Camp Pendleton, California.
He married Alice Curtis in Napa, California, in 1944. After WW II, they returned to Ohio where Tom completed the course for his Mortician's license.
They returned to California and had located to Yreka by 1949. He returned to active duty during the Korean War, assigned to the Oak Knoll Navel Hospital in the San Francisco Bay area.
Tom was active in civic affairs in Yreka; volunteer fire department, Lions Club, city council, and a term as Mayor.
Tom married, second, Ellen Terwilliger Walters in 1987.
