Signe Irene Brunssen, 82, of Sioux City died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Augustana Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Del Olivier officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 10 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the church. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (formerly Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel) is in charge of arrangements.

Signe Irene Brunssen was born July 15, 1921, to Hugo Daniel and Sigrid Marie (Carlson) Jacobson in Sioux City. A graduate of Central High School, she was a salesperson for Younkers in Sioux City for more than 20 years.

She married Herbert "Carl" Brunssen on Aug. 15, 1941, in Sioux City. She found special purpose in her family and faith. As an active member of Augustana Lutheran Church for more than 50 years, Signe participated in numerous church activities. She was a den mother for her son, Randy's Boy Scout Troop as well.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Randy and his wife, Joni of Omaha, Neb.; their children, Megan of Omaha and Randy Jr. of Rapid City, S.D.; a sister, Dorothy Riley of Sioux City; two brothers, Herb Jacobson and his wife, MaryLyn of Sioux City and Cliff Jacobson of Waubin, Minn.; a niece, Marilyn Morin of Sioux City; two nephews, Ronald Hostetler and his wife, Kathy of Sergeant Bluff and David Jacobson of San Jose, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herb; and a brother, John Jacobson.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Hostetler and Jim Bezoni.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Augustana Lutheran Church.
