Graveside services were held for Wilbur "Chic" Bednar, 83, of Osage on Saturday, April 27, 2002 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton, IA. "Chic's" grandson Pastor Frank a Bednar of Covington, KY officiated. A prayer service was held at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Bednar died Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at USA Healthcare in Mason City. He was born March 5, 1919 in Vinton, IA the son of Frank A and Antonia (Koutny) Bednar. "Chic" was united in marriage to Violet Young on Sept.12, 1940 in Cedar Rapids. They made their home in Vinton and in 1962 moved to Osage where he was the machinist for Osage Motor Supply until retiring in 1984. he loved to fish and bake pie for his friends.
Bednar was preceded in death by his parents and wife Violet in 1984.
Survivors include one daughter Julia; two sons, Frank and Kenneth ; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage was in charge of arrangements.

He got his nickname as a child on his parent's farm. It was his chore to close the door of the shed where their 1927 Whippet auto was stored, before sundown to keep the chickens from roosting above the car. One day he failed to close the door soon enough and received a whipping the next day as the chickens had left deposits on the car. His younger sister Dorothy teased him about it and the nickname stayed with him. "Chic"
Few people ever discovered where the nickname came from.

He hunted animals and also mushrooms. He was a very good cook.He was known for his good sense of humor and jovial nature. He handed down to his children his nature of always producing quality in any of work he performed. His work ethic was always superb.

He was proud of his heritage and ancestry.
