Thomas George Williams, 81, of Lathrop, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2006, at Liberty Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 10, 2006, at the First Christian Church of Lathrop. Burial with Military Honors will be in Lathrop Cemetery. Visitation will from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, July 9, at the Park Lawn Lathrop Chapel, 901 Clinton St. The family suggests contributions to the Lathrop Cemetery Association. Tom was born September 14, 1924, in St. Louis, Mo., to Earl and Ruth Williams. He was a veteran of the Unites States Navy, serving in World War II. He had served for over 60 years with the American Legion Post #467 of Lathrop. Tom had been the United States Postmaster for the City of Lathrop for 45 years. He was former Mayor of Lathrop from 1995 to 1999, and served on the Lathrop Board of Alderman 1990-1995. He was also Secretary-Treasurer of the Lathrop Cemetery Association, member of the Lathrop Rotary Club and the First Christian Church, and was a very enthusiastic participant in many civic activities in the Lathrop area. Tom was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory, his sons and their wives, George S. and Marge Williams of Olathe, Kansas, and Kert and Nina Williams of Gardner, Kansas; grandchildren Jessica Shrestha and Shania Williams; step grandchildren Angela, Tiffany, Scott Cart and his wife Sheila, and Lacey Mason; step great grandchildren Kaylee and Marissa Cart, and Brayden Hodgson; brothers Ray Williams of Lansing, Michigan, and Donald Williams of Detroit, Michigan.
